SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Safe to say, Sydney Hollings has been on a personal tear lately for Western Illinois softball. Her efforts have not gone unnoticed either, as the fifth-year was named Summit League Player of the Week on Monday (March 28). It is the first career 'player of week' honor for Hollings.
"Syd was absolutely on fire in the box this past weekend," said WIU head softball coach Alisa Goler. "It was so fun to see her do it in front of our home crowd and her family. I'm super proud of how hard she worlds every single day, and love seeing it translate to games."
After showing out in Middle Tennessee State's hosted tournament (March 20-21), Hollings continued her batting prowess into the Leathernecks' home opener, first league series versus North Dakota State this past weekend. Facing a talented Bison defense, she opened up Saturday (March 27) with two long balls on two hits and five RBI. The pair of homers put her at seven on the year.
Again battling NDSU yesterday afternoon (March 28), Hollings contributed two runs, one hit, and an RBI during game two of the doubleheader. She also had three hits in each of the Sunday games. In all, Hollings finished the four-game series with five hits, five runs, seven RBI, and the two dingers, as mentioned earlier.
WIU steps into its second weekend of league play on Friday (April 2), opening a two-day slate against South Dakota State.
