PRAIRIE VIEW, Tex. - Stepping up in the midst of adverse weather conditions, Cameron Karney of Western Illinois men's golf delivered a career tournament showing during the 2021 Panther Relays Spring Invitational. The junior fired 68 (-4) and 70 (-2) in rounds one and two before concluding the event with 68 again to score under par in all three rounds. It was a first-time achievement for Karney, both in his numbers and as a medalist. His finish was 206 (-10), which ties for fourth all-time in a 54-hole performance at WIU.
As a team, WIU finished second - shooting a total of 872 (293-289-290).
"I'm very proud of Cameron and how he showed mental toughness," emphasized WIU Director of Golf Lia Biehl Lukkarinen. "His bogey-free play was definitely a high point that should motivate him moving forward. I am also proud of how the team came from behind early on."
In his collegiate start, John Lishchynsky landed behind Karney on Western's leaderboard with 222 (+6) after scoring 70 in round three. Joe Burke, Parker Govern, and Wyatt Spier all ended at 228 (+12).
Western has about a week to prep for another business trip: the Twin Oaks Intercollegiate, hosted by Missouri State (Springfield, Mo.)
