Tennis Begins 2021 Campaign in Edwardsville

First Serve | The Western Illinois women's tennis team begins the spring season in Edwardsville against SIUE on Saturday (Feb. 6).
 
Returning Four | Four student-athletes are back with the program for the 2021 season - Ericka Dawson, Lucky Kancherla, Nikhita Simhambhatla, and Mara Vidal
 
Simhambhatla Shines | Nikhita Simhambhatla returns for the 2021 campaign after standing out for the Leathernecks last season. The sophomore led the team in singles victories with four during her initial season with the program, including two at the Eastern Illinois Invitational. 
 
New Faces | The program welcomes four new student-athletes for the 2021 season- Agatha CarbonellLorena CastellanosAina Cortina-PouMaria Rybka
 
Player to Watch | In her very first season as a Leatherneck, freshman Aina Cortina-Pou was selected to The Summit League Women's Tennis Preseason Athletes to Watch List. The Blanes, Spain native, prepped at Institut Serrallarga where she became a strong baseline player with a lot of high-level tournament experience.  
 
Scouting the Cougars | SIUE kicked off the 2021 season with a 6-1 victory over Dayton on Sunday (Jan. 31). The program returns eight student-athletes from last season, including redshirt junior Callaghan Adams. Adams finished last season with an 11-4 record in singles play, with a 7-1 record from the No. 5 and 6 spots. She earned the Cougars' final point on Sunday in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.
