Kansas City Slips By Western, 1-0

Amy Andres and Zoe Clarke both fired shots that hit off the post.

QUINCY, Ill. - The Western Illinois women's soccer team (0-5-0, 0-5-0) battled tough and outshot the Kansas City Roos (3-3-0, 3-2-0), but a second-half goal lifted KC to a 1-0 victory on Friday (Feb. 26) evening.

After setting its season-high in shots last time out, the Leathernecks continued the trend of offensive pressure. WIU held the shooting margin, 9-6, led by Zoe Clarke (3) and Audrey Narine (2).

In the first half, Amy Andrews almost netted her first goal of the season, but her shot hit the post as both sides entered the half-tied 0-0. Clarke nearly opened up the second half with a goal, but her shot fell victim to the post as well.

Freshman Audrey Narine came off the bench and fired back-to-back shots in the 63rd and 64th minute, but one was saved and just wide.

The Roos, who rejoined The Summit League after a seven year stint in the WAC, scored the game-winner in the 75th minute that just missed the outstretched hands of Isabel Navas Rodriguez. She added four saves in the contest.

WIU and KC faceoff again on Sunday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m.
