Western Illinois Falls to Omaha

The team will play again on Sunday (Oct. 10) against Denver.

The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer team was in action again on Friday (Oct. 8), losing 2-1 to the Omaha Mavericks at the Northwest Field on WIU's Macomb campus.
 
Featuring regular starters such as Bridget Scuhler, Angle Knies and Amy Andrews, the Mavericks struck first with a 7th minute goal. Seven minutes later, the 'Necks equalized off a Maverick own goal, and the score would remain tied until halftime. Early in the second half the Mavericks got their second goal, scoring in the 48th minute. Neither team would score the rest of the way, and it was 2-1 in favor of Omaha when the final horn sounded.
 
14 different Leathernecks played in the game and five players recorded at least one shot. Isabel Navas Rodriguez recorded four saves in the game, and the Leathernecks drew ten Maverick fouls.
 
WIU women's soccer is back in action on Sunday (Oct. 10), hosting the Denver Pioneers; kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
