Pioneers Down Leathernecks

Women's soccer faces St. Thomas next weekend.

MACOMB, ILL. – The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer team was back in action on Sunday (Oct. 10), playing Denver in their second game of the weekend and falling 2-0 at the Northwest Field.
 
The game was 1-0 in favor of the Pioneers at halftime thanks to an 11th minute goal. Denver led the half in shots, with the Leathernecks drawing four Denver fouls and taking three corner kicks. The Pioneers added a second goal in the 73rd minute and neither team would score the rest of the way, with the score being 2-0 at the final horn.
 
Western finished with six shots (one on goal) and three corner kicks taken, drawing nine Pioneer fouls. Isabel Navas Rodriguez made six saves in the game and the duo of Amy Andrews and Bridget Schuler each had multiple shots on goal. Six players played a full 90-minute shift.
 
The Leathernecks return to action next Sunday (Oct. 17), facing St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
