Leatherneck Women's Soccer Falls to St. Thomas

Team will face Kansas City in their next game.

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. – The Western Illinois Fighting Leatherneck women's soccer team was back in action on Sunday (Oct. 17), traveling to Minneapolis for a matchup with St. Thomas and falling 1-0.
 
The Leathernecks got out to a fast start in the first half, outshooting UST 6-2 in the first 45 minutes, also leading the game in corner kicks and fouls drawn, but were unable to get a goal. St. Thomas found the back of the net in the 62nd minute and Western was unable to equalize, with the game finishing 1-0.
 
Western out shot their opponents 11-10 (5-2 on goal), forcing five saves from the St. Thomas 'keeper while taking five corner kicks and drawing 12 fouls.
 
17 different players received minutes against the Tommies, with Alexis Betker making her first start of the season and both Audrey Narine and Myla Stewart also appearing in the game. Eight players played the full 90 minutes, and six different Leathernecks recorded a shot. Jenna Lundgren, Bridget Schuler and Natalie Nagle all recorded multiple shots, with Schuler, Nagle, Zoe Clarke and Kayla Turner putting shots on goal.
 
The 'Necks are back in action on Friday (Oct. 22), traveling to Kansas City for a matchup with UMKC. Kickoff at Durwood Soccer Stadium scheduled for 7 p.m.
