Seniors Awarded Membership into NFF Hampshire Honor Society

Western’s top three tacklers were also tackling the classroom.

IRVING, Texas – The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) granted Western Illinois seniors Eric Carrera, Zach Glisan, and Tom Rehfeld membership into its 2020 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, announced Wednesday (April 15).

The society is comprised of 1,432 collegiate football players from all divisions of play, who each maintained a cumulative 3.2 GPA or better in their undergraduate careers.

The recognition comes as no surprise to the three Leathernecks, as they each earned honor roll distinction by the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Rehfeld was also bestowed the MVFC's highest academic honor as a recipient of the President's Council Academic Excellence Award, while Carrera and Glisan earned the Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award.

Eric Carrera | DB | St. Louis, Mo.
Carrera and Rehfeld were voted team captain at the start of the 2019 season, and both pursued nursing degrees.

Carrera finished the season third on the team in tackles (83) with 66 occurring in conference play. He added two interceptions and three breakups.

Zach Glisan | LB | Abingdon, Ill.
Also named an MVFC honorable mention, Glisan led the Leatherneck defense with 88 tackles (45 solo). He ranked 11th in the Valley with 7.3 tackles per game and recorded 10 or more in three different games.

Glisan is currently pursuing an MBA.

Tom Rehfeld | LB | Chicago, Ill.
As one of 13 FCS players selected, Rehfeld was a finalist for the Doris Robinson Scholar-Athlete Award, a national award presented to an FCS student-athlete who excels not only in the classroom but in the community and beyond.

Rehfeld was one of a handful, if not the only student-athlete, who played the 2019 season with RN credentials.  He finished second on the team with 84 tackles while leading Western in tackles for loss (11.0).
