More Wins at Mizzou

The Leathernecks have been successful at Mizzou this season.

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri has been good to Western Illinois track and field this season. In two trips to Columbia, the Leathernecks left with five individual wins, including successes by Tia Dorshorst, Sierra Long, and Hailey Tranchitella in Friday's Mizzou Open (February 7).

For two, the meet marked their first indoor wins of the season, but another Leatherneck has grown accustomed to setting the fastest time at the Hearnes Field House. 

Long placed first in the 400-meter dash at the Missouri Intercollegiate just a few weeks ago, and she doubled up in the event with a first-place time of 58.83 on Saturday. The performance was as impressive as Dorshorsts' in the pole vault, where she cleared the bar at 3.66-meters.

The win was her first this year, but she's no stranger to success after recording the second-best pole vault in WIU's women's indoor history last week (3.85 meters).

Western's final win saw Tranchitella take on two Tigers in the 600-meter dash. She was in a race all herself with more than 10 seconds separating her (1:41.24) and second-place Kelley Hackbarth (1:54.34). 

The Summit League Championships are around the corner, and Western will use the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 14-15) as its final tuneup.
