Leathernecks Strike Gold Twice at Hawkeye Invitational

The Hawkeye Invitational concluded with Leatherneck wins in the long jump and shot put.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The three-week-long winter break had no effect on Western Illinois' track and field program, as good times and high marks continued to roll in Saturday (January 11) at the Hawkeye Invitational.

Bo Brasseur and Carrissa Tinsley each picked up individual titles to highlight a day filled with six total podium finishes and two new all-time marks.

Neither Brasseur nor Tinsley are strangers to success.

The former earned two indoor long jump titles a season ago and collected her first of the 2020 campaign with a mark of 5.90 meters. Representing for the throwers, Tinsley suited up for a pair of finals Saturday – weight throw and shot put – and it was her sixth attempt of 13.62 meters that cemented her second collegiate win in the shot put event.

In the last two seasons under Wholey, it has become a regular occurrence for the Leathernecks to shake up their records list, and this meet was no different. At the EIU Early Bird Invite (December 6), Tia Dorshorst kicked off the season with the seventh-best pole vault mark in WIU's women's history (3.30 meters), and she now sits third all-time after a 3.65-meter showing at the Hawkeye Invitational.

Amelia Peterson previously sat ninth in the indoor triple jump (11.53) before shattering the mark with a new personal record of 11.66, which currently ties for sixth all-time.

Western continues its indoor season at the Missouri Intercollegiate Friday, January 17.
