Kick-Off | The Western Illinois men's soccer team travels to Kansas City for a Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon match against the Roos

Last Time Out | WIU was limited by the Drake Bulldogs on the offensive side of the ball in a 1-0 loss to the Drake Bulldogs on Tuesday (Sept. 17).

In the 24th-minute the Bulldogs put together what would be the only goal of the match. After Tim Trilk punched out a shot headed for the lower right corner, Drake used the ensuing corner by Oliver Bihuniak who placed a ball right to the head of Istvan Wihelms for a goal in the upper left corner.

Trilk was tested by Drake who fired 16 total shots as the Bulldogs limited WIU to six shots. The senior stopped eight shots en route to moving into seventh all-time for minutes in goals (3326:24). He sits at three saves away from becoming tenth all-time in saves.

The Leathernecks best chance came at the 54-minute mark when Paul Kirdorf secured the ball and hit Ryan DeBois in stride, but his shot sailed just over the crossbar high.

National Attention | To say Tim Trilk is a wall between the pipes is an understatement. The senior as of Monday (Sept. 16) is second in Division I with 32 saves. A week prior, he was tied for first. Including setting a career-high 13 at UIC which tied Chris Frenz (Oct. 25, 2002 vs. IUPUI) for third in saves in a game. He is tied for eighth all-time in shutouts (7) and seventh all-time for minutes in goal (3326:24) in program history. Trilk is now three saves and wins away from becoming tenth all-time in program history for both categories.

Start Wearing Purple and Gold | So far into the 2019 campaign WIU has totaled six goals with half of them coming from newcomers. Daniel McIntosh, Daisuke Otsuka and Enric Ferrer have all found the back of the net for the first time as a Leatherneck. Another new face to the team is Caleb Ragland, who leads the team with two assists.

All Eyes On 5 | Heading into his junior season Paul Kirdorf was tabbed a Player to Watch for the 2019 season. The midfielder is one of five key returners for the Leathernecks this season as he finished with a team-high in points (7) and assists (3) while starting all 14 matches. He also helped the Leatherneck defense record four shutouts during the 2018 campaign en route to being the team leader in shots on goal (10).

Scouting the Roos | Kansas City hosts Western Illinois with a 0-3 mark after a loss to Drake on Saturday (Sept. 14). The Roos were picked to finish 10th in the WAC Coaches' Poll after a 4-7-0 record last year. KC enters the 2019 campaign with a brand new squad: 16 freshman, one transfer and just seven returners.

Up Next | The Purple and Gold return to John MacKenzie to host Missouri State on Thursday (Sept. 26) and Northern Illinois Sunday (Sept. 28).
