Kick-Off | The Western Illinois women's soccer team jumps back on the road after a short two-game homestand to take on Milwaukee on Thursday (Sept. 12) and Illinois State Sunday (Sept. 15).

Last Time Out | Western split the pair of home matches with a 2-1 victory of UIC and a 1-0 loss to Northern Illinois.

Just before Amy Andrews went on her scoring spree, Ines Palmiero Herrera stole the spotlight when the senior recorded career save number 192 to move to fifth all-time in program history. She stopped a total of seven UIC opportunities and sits at 20 saves on the 2019 campaign. Katherine Hill is currently fourth all-time in the program with 219.

After a UIC goal ('72) tied things at 1-1, Andrews got her final sip of tea on her team-leading third goal by cutting into the far left side of the box to bury the ball into the top right corner. The Leathernecks' 16th shot of the afternoon also marked the game-winning goal (84').

Emily Bollman was the last Leatherneck to score two goals in a match and did so against Chicago State in 2017. On Thursday, the senior helped Andrews earn that honor when she found the sophomore just inside the top of the box and Andrews one-timed it into the bottom right corner to give WIU a 1-0 lead.

Against Northern Illinois, the Huskies' scored the lone goal of the match at the 62-minute mark off a shot from the top of the box.

Ines Palmiero Herrera experienced another career mark when she notched her 200th save in the 73rd minute, becoming only the fifth Leatherneck goalkeeper to do so.

Scouting the Panthers | Milwaukee host the Leathernecks with a 5-1 record overall with their lone loss coming against Eastern Kentucky 1-0 in overtime. The Panthers have claimed 18 regular-season titles in the past 19 years and have won the Horizon League four years in a row. Last season's Defensive Player of the Year, Haley Johnson leads the squad with five goals and an assist.

Scouting the Redbirds | Illinois State hosts both Utah State and Western Illinois for weekend action, which will conclude a four-game homestand. The Redbirds are 2-4 overall this year and were picked to finish third in the Missouri Valley. Kate Del Fava, a Preseason All-Conference selection, carries the ISU offensive by scoring eight of their 11 goals this season.

Primeau's Pregame Quote | "We head to Milwaukee Thursday to face a very talented side that has been scoring at will as of late," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "Our girls will have to put the NIU game behind them and be very organized defensively throughout the match. If we're defensively sound our chances in the attack will come. It's imperative we're clinical in the final third. The weekend doesn't get any easier, as Sunday we travel to Normal to take on Illinois State. Another road test will be a great way to measure just how far our team has come since last year. I think we're a much better side and I'm excited to see the girls rise to the occasion."

Between the Pipes | Goalkeeper Ines Palmiero Herrera has continued to climb the ranks in the record book. On Sept. 5 she became fifth all-time in career saves with 192 against UIC and chases Katherine Hill (219) for fourth all-time. The senior experienced another honor when she recorded save number 200, becoming only the fifth Leatherneck to do. Last season she led the Summit League with 93 saves en route to setting the individual season record for eighth all-time and tenth for minutes in goal (1487:55). Palmiero Herrera sits fifth all-time in saves (201), sixth in shutouts (4), tied for seventh in wins (7) and fourth for minutes in goal (3457:28).

ALL EYES ON YAKIMA |  Heading into her junior season, Lauryn Peters was named a Summit League Player to Watch. She has notched back-to-back seasons with at least one goal and two assists. Last season, Peters started all 18 matches and finished tied for first on the team with 14 shots on goal. The Yakima, Wash., native has logged over 2,400 minutes in just two seasons and has appeared in all 34 games with 30 starts. Peters recorded a shot in nearly every match but six and ended the 2018 season tied for second in assists (2) and shots (28). She also takes the pitch alongside her high school teammate and current captain Natalie Nagle

Up Next | The Leathernecks open a five-game homestand starting with Drake on Friday (Sept. 20) and Northern Iowa Sunday (Sept. 22).
