The Leathernecks add a top prep golfer.

MACOMB, Ill. - Eddie Bening made his commitment to Western Illinois men's golf official on Wednesday (March 27). The Des Moines, Iowa native, started his prep career at Dowling Catholic in Iowa before finishing at Shattuck-St. Mary's school in Faribault, Minnesota.

"I'm excited to announce Eddie Bening as the newest Leatherneck for men's golf," interim head coach Lia Biehl Lukkarinen said. "Eddie has dedicated his gap year to competition and has fired some excellent rounds in national events.  His fundamentals, fitness and ball striking will transition well to the demands of Division I golf in the Midwest."

In addition to his high school play, Bening participated in several highly competitive tournaments in 2018. He tied for sixth place overall at the FCWT Junior Golf Tournament in Phoenix that included low-round of 70.

Bening picked up a pair of top-20 finishes at the Iowa Junior Amateur Championship (74-78) and the Minneapolis Junior Open (79-75). Out of 105 competitors in the Des Moines Junior Amateur Championship, he wound up in 32nd overall.

He joins Eddie Burke and Ryan Rochholz as recent signees to the program.
