MACOMB, Ill. – Western Illinois women's basketball dominated the UIS Prairie Stars from behind the 3-point line Friday (Nov. 12), outshooting their visitors 16-2, en route to a 91-51 victory. The Leathernecks were three 3-pointers shy of tying their program record.Â
Setting the stage for the rest of the night, Annabel Graettinger gave the Leathernecks their first lead of the game on a three and the 5-2 score quickly turned into a 16-7 edge with five minutes remaining. For the remainder of the quarter, Western only missed three of their 12 shots from behind the line and ended the frame with a 33-11 advantage. Olivia Kaufmann led the offense with eight points on a 6-7 effort.Â
The game slowed down at the beginning of the third quarter but the Leathernecks found their rhythm with a seven-point run (7:57). They entered the fourth with a 71-39 lead and continued to advance for the remainder of the game.Â
Western had four players with a double-digit scoring night and Kaufmann guided the pack with 17 points. Elizabeth Lutz added 14, Grace Gilmore 12, and Graettinger with 11.
The Leathernecks will cap their three game home stretch Thursday (Nov. 15) as they take on Indiana State at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Purdue on Sunday (Nov. 17).
