The Leathernecks play host to Milwaukee and Ball State.

MACOMB, Ill. — Western Illinois women's soccer finishes the homestand by playing host to Milwaukee on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m. and Ball State on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT:
Despite taking a late first-half lead, the Western Illinois women's soccer team (1-3) surrendered three second-half goals to Louisiana Tech (5-1) to fall 3-1 on Friday (Aug. 31) night.

After Lauryn Peters recorded the first Western shot of the game in the 10th minute, the next Leatherneck shot found the back of the net. During a scramble in front of the 18-yard box, the ball bounced out to Emily Bollman who one-timed it and sailed the ball into the far corner of the net to give WIU a late first-half lead.

The Lady Techsters quickly tied the game in the second half off a header at the 47th mark. Four minutes later, Tech used another header off a free kick to take a 2-1 lead at the 52nd minute.  Louisiana Tech found their final goal of the match in the 71st minute.

Ines Palmiero Herrera notched six saves for the second time this season. The junior now has 20 saves in her last three games and 23 on the season.

SCOUTING THE PANTHERS:
Milwaukee is currently 4-0-0 overall including a couple of wins last weekend. The Panthers edged Robert Morris 1-0 on Friday (Aug. 31) and DePaul 2-1 on Sunday (Sept. 2) to stay undefeated. Western Illinois lost 3-0 to Milwaukee on the road last season.

Troy Fabiano enters his fourth season as the head coach of the Panthers and holds a 44-8-10 overall record. He's led Milwaukee to three consecutive Horizon League regular season titles including a 16-0-4 mark in 2017 to be the nation's only unbeaten team. Milwaukee led early this season by freshman forward Haley Johnson with two goals and four assists for a team-high eight points. Elaina LaMacchia is in goal for the Panthers and is coming off a Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week honor for the Panthers. The freshman has 13 saves and a .929 save percentage.

SCOUTING THE CARDINALS:
Ball State comes into Sunday's match with 3-1-0 overall record. The Cardinals started off last weekend in Charleston, S.C. by defeating College of Charleston 3-0 on Friday (Aug. 31) before the game on Sunday, Sept. 2 versus Charleston Southern was canceled due to lightning.

Craig Roberts is in his ninth season as the head coach of the Cardinals with an 88-53-25 record at the helm. Overall, including four previous seasons at UT Martin, Roberts is 122-80-37 as a head coach. Freshman midfielder Tatiana Mason has two goals to pace the Cardinals during the young season. Last season, Ball State beat the Leathernecks in Indiana by a tally of 3-0.

PRIMEAU'S PREGAME QUOTE: "I thought the girls started the game really well against Louisiana Tech going up 1-0 in the first half," assistant coach Josee Primeau said. "We didn't keep that intensity going in the second half as we allowed them to come back and win the game. They were a tough opponent and we are going to face a similar challenge this Friday against Milwaukee. We have to find a way to come back from a tough loss and play two good home games this weekend. Ball State is coming off its third straight conference title in the MAC, which will not be an easy test for us on Sunday. The girls have been working hard in training and seem to have the right attitude going into this weekend. They want to play and they want to win so this will be an exciting weekend for women's soccer."

LOOKING AHEAD:
The Leathernecks go on the road to face Chicago State on Friday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. before heading to Des Moines, Iowa to play Drake at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16.
