70 Student-Athletes Earn Spots On Commissioner's List

The figure ranks third in The Summit League

MACOMB, Ill.- Western Illinois University had 70 student-athletes named to the Summit League Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence, the league announced today (July 11). The Leathernecks placed the third most representatives on the list out of the 12 departments that compete in the league.

To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.5 cumulative career grade-point average, previously completed at least three semesters or five quarters at the certifying institution and must have used a season of competition (year of athletic eligibility) in the sport in which the student-athlete is nominated.

Women's soccer placed the most student-athletes with nine, while softball followed closely with eight members. Men's soccer, women's golf and women's basketball each placed seven on the list. Women's track and field followed with six representatives, while baseball and women's swimming and diving had five. Women's tennis and men's track and field each etched four names on the list, while men's basketball and women's cross country each had three. Volleyball placed a pair, while men's cross country rounded out the list with one.
