NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Fighting Leatherneck men's golf program concluded its first day of the Oral Roberts-Stephen F. Austin Spring Break Challenge (March 12).
Through the first round, Western Illinois sits 14th of 16 teams. Jackson Wetherbee led the way for the Purple and Gold with a first-round total of 76 (+5).
Following the Galesburg, Ill. native was Kyle Irlbacker, who finished one stroke behind at 77 (+6). The pair of Trent Snodgrass and Sean Miller both shot 80s (+9), while Drew Eaton rounded out the Leathernecks with an 83 (+12). Individually, Trey Timpe tied for 90th posting an 89 on the first day.
"We played better than we scored today," said head coach Mel Blasi. "The TPC is a new course to us and we struggled reading and making putts today. It's a great golf course, but it takes a few rounds to get comfortable. We are looking forward to the next couple of days."
The second round continues tomorrow, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
