PEORIA, Ill. –
Lucas Lingle and Nicole Beebe led the Western Illinois Leathernecks on Friday (Nov. 9) at the NCAA Midwest Regionals in Peoria. The Leatherneck men placed 30th with 906 points and Western Illinois' women finished 34th with 1023 points.

"Our teams haven't been fully represented at the regional meet in many years," said Western Illinois head coach Nick Maas. "In order for us to grow, we needed to set a benchmark and work toward a higher standard of ourselves. This team took a good step in the direction of becoming a better team and will be the foundation we build on. We still have a long ways to go, but showed some good progress this season."

Lingle's 33:56.2 time made him the first Western Illinois runner in the 10K to cross the finish line, placing him 150th. Corey Moody's 34:46.0 run netted him 177th while Ross Smetzer's 35:15.8 mark was good for 186th.

Lucas Howett (35:34.1, 191st), Quintin Thurman (36:20.3, 202nd), Alec Scott (37:17.0, 205th) and Angel Yescas (38:52.2, 208th) also competed for Western Illinois.

On the women's side, Beebe was the first Leatherneck to cross the finish line in the 6K, registering a 22:52.4 time for 162nd place. Hailey Tranchitella notched 202nd with a run of 23:43.9 and Abigail Richter (24:20.2), Jacey Roper (24:23.7) and Elyse Mathews (24:36.3) registered 219th, 220th and 222nd, respectively.

Mackenzie Goldring (24:56.7, 226th) and Kaitlyn Mathews (25:58.3, 231st) also competed for the Purple and Gold.

"Each individual competed to the very best of their ability today, and we looked improved over our performance two weeks ago," Maas said. "On the men's side, Lucas Lingle ran 26 places better than last year and Nicole Beebe ran 40 places better than last year, along with several other large improvements. Those are dramatic improvements! I'm very proud of our growth and we are getting better every day. I'm encouraged as a coach that everyone was focused forward after the meet and ready to attack the track season. One step at a time is the name of the game in our sport."
