Williams Earns National Recognition on CoSIDA Academic All-District Team

Kyle Williams has started every game this season while managing a 3.7 grade point average.

MACOMB, Ill.Kyle Williams became the first Leatherneck of the 2018-19 athletic season to earn national recognition for academic achievement. The Western Illinois defensive lineman was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District® Football Team Thursday (Nov. 15), where he joined 24 student-athletes from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio as District 5 selections.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot which will be announced in early December. Last year, former Leathernecks Brett Taylor and Jacob Judd represented the University as Academic All-Americans.

Williams, a sophomore from Lebanon, Ind., has started every game this season at defensive end. He currently boasts a 3.7 grade point average and is pursuing a degree in medical sciences while minoring in chemistry.

On the field, the Leatherneck defense lays claim as one of the best in the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Williams has assisted in those measures with 29 tackles (16 solo), a forced fumble, three quarterback hurries and a pass breakup.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution.
