The Leathernecks scored 60 first-half points

MACOMB, Ill.- Highlighted by Kobe Webster's six 3-pointers, Western Illinois cruised to a 99-36 win against Knox College in its first exhibition of the 2018-19 slate. Guided by a 60-point first, the Leathernecks never trailed against the Prairie Fire.

Four Leathernecks scored in double digits (Kobe Webster-22, Zion Young – 17, James Claar-12 and Isaac Johnson – 11) and all but one Leatherneck registered at least a point. Every player on the roster saw game action against Knox College, while Ben Pyle logged a team-high 26 minutes.

The Purple and Gold came out of the gate hot, as Webster knocked down a trifecta 13 seconds into the contest. Johnson added to the Leathernecks' hot start after draining a 3-pointer of his own on the wing with a hand in his face. Young pushed the Leatherneck lead to 32 points (42-10) with 7:37 left in the first half after making a corner 3-pointer. WIU ended the half on a 14-2 run and took a 60-15 lead at the break.

The first field goal for the Prairie Fire came with 13:23 to go in the frame on a layup by Jordan Rayner. Two Young free throws with 9:58 to go put the Leathernecks up 50 and 51 points, respectively. The teams combined for three points in the final two minutes of the contest and the game ended in Western Illinois' favor, 99-36.
