The Fighting Leatherneck women's basketball team of Western Illinois University (16-6, 6-2 Summit League) cruised to a 97-72 victory over North Dakota State (8-13, 1-6) behind the career-day of Michelle Farrow.

Just 24 hours following her birthday and on #ThinkPink day, the senior from Waukesha, Wis. dropped a career-high 25 points, and tied a program-record of seven threes in a single game in the win over North Dakota State. Her seven threes tie fellow teammate Morgan Blumer and four other former Leathernecks (Michelle Maher, Saule Kontautaite, Vicki Adelman and Lori Schrock) for the most in a game.

As a team, the Purple and Gold also drained 19 threes, which set a new program record. That record one-upped the previous of 18 set this week (Jan. 24) in the win over Denver.

"I thought we did a very good job of keeping the pedal to the metal," said head coach JD Gravina. "Our offense was really clicking, and we did a much better job with our spacing and making more quality movements. We were making the right read and made the right plays for some good scoring opportunities. Defensively, I was also very satisfied and our rebounding also took a step in the right direction."

The Leathernecks and Bison traded baskets at the first media timeout, with the Bison holding a 13-11 edge at the 4:46 mark. A steal by Taylor Higginbotham out of the break resulted in a pass to Emily Clemens, who found Michelle Farrow for the first of her seven threes.

Another Farrow three forced an NDSU timeout, as the Leathernecks held a 24-18 edge with just over a minute remaining in the first. After one, Western held on to a 29-23 lead.

The lead increased to 10 after Olivia Kaufmann drained a pair of free throws at the 8:34 mark in the second to spark a 13-3 Leatherneck run. Just 30 seconds later, Farrow netted her fifth from downtown of the half to force another Bison timeout, as Western had a 37-26 lead.

Under the four-minute mark, Higginbotham found Sam Pryor on a skip pass for an open three, which helped the Leathernecks maintain a 47-36 cushion at the half.

The Leathernecks opened the third with a pair of threes by Morgan Blumer and Olivia Braun. The Purple and Gold eventually outscored the Bison 29-19, which was capped off by a backdoor pass from Krishna Merriman to Emily Clemens to give Western a 76-55 lead.

In the opening minute of the fourth, another Higginbotham and-one sparked an 11-2 run that was capped off by Farrow's seventh dagger from beyond the arc. Two minutes later, Blumer knocked down the 19th Leatherneck three for the record. Over the final quarter, Western was able to outscore the Bison 21-17 for the two-game winning streak.

Western Illinois now sets its focus to a pair of road games against South Dakota (Feb. 1) and Oral Roberts (Feb. 3) next week.
