Leatherneck Women Back In Action Against Northern Iowa

Western Illinois hosts final home meet of season on Saturday at 2 p.m. inside Brophy Hall

MACOMB, Ill. - Forty-eight days after their last meet, the Western Illinois women's swimming and diving team gets back in action at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 20) with a dual meet against the Northern Iowa Panthers from Brophy Hall.

THE SENIOR CLASS: While Western Illinois celebrated its eight seniors on Dec. 2 against Truman State, Saturday's competition with Northern Iowa will be the final home meet for six Leatherneck women. Amy Borgstede, Allison DeWane, Brittany Erickson, Kathryn Ferguson, Hannah Fisher and Taylor Winkel will also swim for the final time in Brophy Hall. The two Western Illinois senior male swimmers, Kyle Siebert and Anferenee Sturdivant, had their final home meet against Truman State.

LAST TIME OUT: In a dual meet on Dec. 2 with Truman State, the Leatherneck women faltered 123-81. Erica Hagen won the 200-IM with a 2:15.71 before later taking the 100-breast by nearly five seconds with a time of 1:06.25. The junior also joined with Winkel, Miranda Mathus and Marissa Purdum in winning the 200-medley relay (1:52.52). In the women's 50-free, Marissa Purdum secured another Leathernecks individual triumph with a time of 25.90. She also finished second in the 100-free (56.34). The Leatherneck women saw Mathus etch a second-place finish in both the 200-free (1:59.12) and 100-fly (1:01.39), respectively. Amanda Schaefer's 5:37.20 time in the 500-free was good for second as well. Other bests came from Amy Borgstede's personal record in the 200-fly (2:12.860.
