Adam McGinnis reaches base three times in the loss

FARGO, N.D.Adam McGinnis reached base three times, but North Dakota State wound up throwing a three-hit shutout in a 8-0 decision Saturday afternoon (May 13).

NDSU (26-22 overall, 16-10 Summit League) got on the board in the first inning. With two down, the Bison got back-to-back walks to bring home a run. A RBI triple in the second inning by Bennett Hostettler made it 2-0, then NDSU added another run in the third when a safety squeeze bunt attempt was not fielded cleanly.

McGinnis represented Western's (18-27, 12-12) lone base runner in the first five innings. He drew a two-out walk in the first then got the team's first hit with a single in the fourth.

Deion Thompson singled in the fifth, stole second with one out but was stranded in scoring position.

The Bison made it 6-0 in the fifth when Matt Elsenpeter lined a 3-run homer with two down in the inning. Back-to-back doubles in the eighth was the final margin.
