Leathernecks Fall to IUPUI, NDSU to Conclude Summit League Tournament Play

WIU fell to No. 1 IUPUI 9-4 before falling the No. 2 NDSU 6-3 in an elimination game

FARGO, N.D. – Western Illinois softball wrapped up play in The Summit League Tournament Friday (May 12) after falling to the top two seeds in the Championships. The top-seeded IUPUI Jaguars topped the Leathernecks, 9-4, in the first game of the day before the North Dakota State Bison beat WIU, 6-3.

Western, who finished tied for second in the league standings with an 11-7 league record, falls to 22-32 on the year after the loss. IUPUI improved to 23-27 overall, while NDSU moved to 26-31.

"I am very proud of our team and how we played in this year's Summit League Tournament," said head coach Holly Van Vlymen. "That opening game win over SDSU was a huge comeback win, and once we got past that first game I think we were able to loosen up a little bit and play like up to our abilities. I'm very proud of our seniors and the leadership that they brought to our team this year. I don't think this season could have been possible without what each of them brought to this team."
