MACOMB, Ill. —
A slow start turned into a dynamic finish Tuesday (Nov. 14), as the Western Illinois women's basketball program notched its third win of the season with a 96-57 victory over William Woods.

A 3-point lead at the end of the first quarter turned into a 19-point lead at the half after a 16-2 run to close out the second quarter.

"Credit to William Woods. I thought they played hard throughout the whole game, and in the first quarter they were the tougher and scrappier team," said head coach JD Gravina. "That is something I challenged my kids at halftime with. The big thing was that I was disappointed in the rebounding effort, but we did pick it up in the second half. That's a very important aspect in the game for us."

Michelle Farrow—who finished the game with 18 points and career-high seven steals—opened the third with five straight points, followed by another three at the 4:36 mark to increase the Leatherneck lead to 30 (60-30). Western eventually held a 71-46 lead at the end of the third.

Led by the game-high 20 points and five threes made from Taylor Hanneman, along Farrow's quartet of shots made from beyond the arc, the Leathernecks were able to cruise to the win. Both Emily Clemens (double-double of 10 points and 11 assists) and Taylor Higginbotham (10 points) also reached double-digits, while Olivia Kaufmann had a career-high eight assists off nine points.

Western Illinois will now set its preparation to its first road contest of the season, which is a Nov. 18 matchup against in-state foe Northern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. (CT).
