AMES, Iowa —
Six Leathernecks set personal records Friday (Nov. 10) at the NCAA Midwest Regional from the Iowa State Cross Country Course in Ames.

"We ran lights-out today at the regional championships in cold, windy conditions on our toughest course of the season," said head coach Nick Maas. "I told them to run Leatherneck Tough and everyone did that. Six of the seven who ran today set personal bests in their races, which is the best you can ask for at the end of the year."

Lucas Lingle (32:42.25) and Grant Kaiser (32:47.13) finished back-to-back at 176th and 177th, respectively, in the 10k to lead the Western Illinois men. Ross Smetzer followed closely behind with a mark of 33:15.24 for 182nd. All three times were career-bests.

On the women's side, Abigail Richter became the first Leatherneck to cross the finish line by racing to a 22:29.14 for 168th place. Nicole Beebe's 23:18.97 registered 203rd, Hailey Tranchitella's 23:38.72 time came in 212th and Jacey Roper compiled a 23:50.10 time for 218th. Richter, Tranchitella and Roper each recorded a personal-best, with Beebe coming within a second of a career-best.

"Grant, Lucas and Ross ran amazingly and set personal-best. Abigail continues to run well, improving by 30 places over last year," Maas said. "I am extremely proud of this team, and with the recruits coming in, things will only get better. Now it's time to rest up a little and build for a great track season."
