Leathernecks Conclude Fighting Irish Classic

Western competes in final fall match next week

RESULTS

South Bend, Ind. – The Western Illinois men's golf team wrapped up the final day of the Fighting Irish Classic hosted by Notre Dame at The Warren Golf Course.

STARTING LINEUP:

DAY ONE:
The event kicked off on Sunday (Oct. 8) with 36 holes being played.

Western had two players that placed in the top ten after the first 18 holes.

Eaton tied for fifth after shooting a 67 (-3) through the first 18. He ended the first day (147) tied for 46th. Wetherbee was one stroke behind Eaton with a score of 68 after the first 18. He then finished tied for 12th with a total of 140 (E).

Freshman Trent Snodgrass opened up the first 18 with a score of 71 (+1) that tied for 28th. He would stayed tied in that position and finished the day with total of 144.
Both Miller and Duggan III ended the day tied for 66th shooting a 152 each.

The Leathernecks finished ninth overall with a score of 578 after day one.

DAY TWO:

The last day (Oct. 9) of the Invitational was 18 holes starting at 7:30 am. Jackson Wetherbee entered day two with a score of 140. The junior shot a 74 and tied for 25th overall. Trent Snodgrass (144) shot another 73 that tied him for 37th. Sean Miller (152) entered the day tied for 66th. He would finish the final round with a score of 70 and tied for 54th, and Eaton finished one stroke behind his teammate (T-57th).

John Duggan III (229) concluded his final round tied for 68th after shooting a 77 during the final round.

"Our place in the field certainly did not indicate how well we played in this tournament. We had had a terrific first round especially Drew, Jackson and Trent who shot 67, 68 and 71," said head coach Mel Blasi. "Other than a few holes in the second and third rounds, we were very competitive in this tournament. We know what we need to work on and we know we need to be more mentally tough."

The Leathernecks' fall schedule comes to an end when they compete in the New Mexico State Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate starting on Monday (Oct. 16), which lasts until Tuesday (Oct. 17).
