Western competes in Notre Dame Invitational this weekend

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Western Illinois men's golf team concluded the final day of the Zach Johnson Invitational hosted by Drake University at Glen Oaks Country Club.

DAY ONE:

The first day (Oct. 2) of the Invitational consisted of 36 holes starting at 8:30 a.m. (shotgun start).

Sophomore Drew Eaton would finish the first day tied for second overall with a score 143 (+1), only trailing one stroke behind the leader. He finished the opening round with a score of 70 and round two with a 71.

Snodgrass and Cervantes were the two freshmen that were part of WIUs 'Top 5' that competed. Snodgrass was tied for 34th with a score of 154. Cervantes (164) was tied for 60th.

After 36 holes Reedy and Duggan III were only separated by three strokes from each other. Duggan III (159) was tied for 49th and Reedy (156) was tied for 41st.

Competing as an individual, Timpe shot a 160 earning him tied for 51st.

The Leathernecks would finish 7th overall with a score of 612 after day one.

DAY TWO:

The last day (Oct. 3) of the Invitational was 18 holes starting at 9:00 a.m. (shotgun start).

Drew Eaton would again finish the day with the best score (82) for a Leatherneck earning him tied for 18th place overall.

Freshmen Trent Snodgrass and Dylan Cervantes moved up from their original spots after the first day. Cervantes (81) finished 59th and Snodgrass (74) climbed all the way to tie for 27th.

Dennis Reedy (78) and John Duggan III (74) finished the Invitational only separated by one stroke. Duggan III concluded the event tied for 40th and Reedy tied for 43th.

Trey Timpe competed as an individual, shooting a 79 moving up to finish 50th.

The Leathernecks stay busy this week and compete in the University of Notre dame Invitational starting on Sunday (Oct. 8) lasting until Monday (Oct. 9).
