FARGO, N.D. - The Western Illinois volleyball team (6-15) dropped its match against North Dakota State (14-5) on Sunday (Oct.15), 25-19, 25-19, 25-14. The Leathernecks were not able to cover in the third set after dropping each of the first two.

In the first set, the Bison jumped out to a 4-1 lead and did not fall behind for the rest of the set. Down 18-10, Western was able to make it 20-14 from kills by Riley Schumacher and Shalyn Greenhaw. The Purple and Gold looked to find momentum at the end of the set, winning the last four of five points, but could not make up enough ground to take the set.

The Leathernecks dropped set two by the exact same margin as they did in the first set, 25-19. Western Illinois won the first three points from two attacking errors from NDSU and a kill by Shiah Sanders. The Bison came back to take the lead at 7-6, but the Leathernecks could not be put away easily. WIU won five of seven points in the middle of the set to take a 13-12 lead. However, Western couldn't maintain their success as the Bison took a 19-16 lead and eventually took the set 25-19.

The Leathernecks started the third set strong and were tied at six apiece with the Bison. Up 16-12, NDSU rode the home crowd and won seven of nine points to close out the set.

Greenhaw led the Leathernecks with nine kills, Jaime Johnson recorded a team-high 31 assists and Claire Grove logged 18 digs.
