Richter, Kaiser Lead Western Illinois At Bradley Pink Classic

Leathernecks compete in final regular season meet before The Summit League Championships

PEORIA, Ill. — The Western Illinois cross country teams wrapped up the regular season Friday (Oct. 13) by competing at the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria. The Leatherneck men placed 28th while the women finished 29th.

"We had a nice tune-up meet and worked on a few last strategic things going into championship season," said head coach Nick Maas. "Once we freshen up in the next two weeks, we will be ready to roll. We'll be ready to 'Neck Up' at that point."

Western Illinois' women had two finished in the top-135 of the 31-team meet, led by Abigail Richter (120th, 22:57.6) and Nicole Beebe (133rd, 23:04.4).

A pair of underclassmen finished next for the Leathernecks, as Jacey Roper came in 177th with a time of 23:55.5 and Hailey Tranchitella placed 188th with a mark of 24:12.7. Kristen Goben (210th, 28:43.2) also competed for Western Illinois.

Grant Kaiser (139th, 27:10.6) had the best time for the Leatherneck men. The senior was trailed closely by Lucas Lingle (154th, 27:32.2) and Ross Smetzer (158th, 27:36.5). Corey Moody (175th, 28:43.2), Harry Osborne (182nd, 29:41.2) and Quintin Thurman (186th, 31:07.6) also ran for Western Illinois.

The Bradley Pink Classic was Western Illinois' final regular season meet. The Leathernecks will race in The Summit League Championships at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 in Vermillion, South Dakota.
