Kaiser Earns Summit League Academic All-League Honors

Junior earns first Academic All-League award of career

ELMHURST, Ill. - Western Illinois cross country junior student-athlete Grant Kaiser has been named to The Summit League's Cross Country Academic All-League Team, the conference announced Wednesday (Nov. 16). Voted on by each Summit League institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors, a  total of 10 student-athletes, five men and five women, were named to the team and honored for their combined athletic and academic performances this season.
 
Kaiser, a junior at Western Illinois, has maintained a 3.967 GPA while majoring in law enforcement and justice administration. During the 2016 season, he was the Leathernecks' top finisher at each of the team's seven meets. The Springfield, Ill. native set a career-best with a fourth-place finish in the 6k (19:15.6) on Sept. 2 at WIU's Early Bird Invite before notching another personal-best in the 8k (26:15.5) on Oct. 29 during The Summit League Championships in Macomb. Kaiser also turned in a 12th-place performance with a 26:26 mark on Oct. 1 at the Iowa Invitational Regional Preview.

To be eligible for The Summit League Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions.  The men's and women's cross country all-league teams are made up of the 10 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
