Western Illinois Cross Country Scores Pair of Dual Meet Victories at Bradley Intercollegiate

Men's side edges Evansville while women sprints by Chicago State

PEORIA, Ill. – Western Illinois cross country participated in their first road meet of their 2015 campaign as they traveled to the Bradley Intercollegiate meet on Friday (Sept. 11) at Detweiler Park. The men's race went 8K while the women ran a 3-mile-long course, with each side recording one dual meet win.

Western Illinois' women's team earned a dual meet victory 17-38 over Chicago State. Madison Lefler was the first Leatherneck to cross the finish line on the women's side, earning a 13th-place finish overall in 17:54. Alyssa Johnson finished in 43rd in 19:35, followed by Shelby DePriest who ran 19:59 to finish 52nd overall.

Jaclyn Finney (58th/20:22) and Jaylee Clements (79th/21:11) rounded out the top five for Western Illinois.

The Leathernecks fell 21-36 against Evansville and 15-50 to Bradley.

Western's men's squad registered a dual meet victory over Evansville by a score of 29-30. Grant Kaiser paced the men's team in 26:37, good enough for a 19th-place finish overall. Lucas Lingle finished in 21st in 26:59 and Christian Hoover placed 31st in 28:24.

Josh Thomas (72nd/34:13) and Danny Daniels (73rd/34:17) also competed for Western.

The men's side fell 15-50 to Bradley and 26-29 to Chicago State.

"The entire squad took a big step forward today," said Western Illinois coach Russell Peterson. "Eight of our 10 athletes improved their times at the competition distance. We are looking forward to the next few weeks to train and take the next step."

Next up for the Leathernecks is the Illinois Collegiate in Bourbonnais on Friday, Oct. 2.
