Michele Aurand Named Western Illinois Head Cheerleading Coach

Aurand, who earned her Master of Science in Education degree in 2008 from WIU, currently works in WIU's Centennial Honors College as an Academic Honors Advisor.

MACOMB, Ill. - Michele Aurand joins the Western Illinois Athletics Department as the new head cheerleading coach for both football and basketball seasons.

"I couldn't be more excited for this new opportunity here at Western. I am a proud WIU grad, and I look forward to bringing my knowledge, experience, and enthusiasm to the amazing cheerleading program here," said Aurand.

Aurand earned her Master of Science in Education degree in 2008 from Western Illinois University. In 1999 she graduated from Augustana College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication. Aurand served as the cheerleading coach at Rushville-Industry High School from 2007-2013. Before that she was the advisor for the Westernettes danceline here at WIU from 2004-2009.

Originally from Dixon, IL, Aurand has been with the university since July 2001. She currently works in the Centennial Honors College as an Academic Honors Advisor, a position she has held since 2013. Before that she was the Academic Advisor and Program Coordinator for the Interdisciplinary Studies Program (2009-2013), and an Admissions Counselor in the Undergraduate Admissions Office (2001-2009). Aurand has also served as an adjunct faculty member in the Recreation, Park, and Tourism Administration department since 2012.
