FINAL RESULTS

PINEHURST,
N.C. Western Illinois men's golf wrapped up play in the Pinehurst Intercollegiate Sunday afternoon (March 15) in seventh place after posting its best score of the invite, a 315, during the final 18 holes. Before tallying a 315 in the final round, WIU recorded scores of 323 and 316 in rounds one and two.

"We played respectable during the final two rounds of the tournament after a slow start on Friday," said head coach Mel Blasi. "The golf course played extremely difficult with cool and wet conditions the first two days, and breezy the last day."

Nate Davis led the way for the Leathernecks once again as the senior captain finished tied for 16th individually with a score of 233. Davis opened the invite with an 81 before firing back-to-back marks of 76 in rounds two and three.

"Nate (Davis) was battling an illness the first day but was able to rally and put solid rounds together during the last two days. The other guys really battled all the way to the end. It was great to see Andrew (Blackburn) get back on track with a closing 75," concluded Blasi.

Junior Alex Templin and sophomore Andrew Blackburn finished tied for 32nd and 36th, respectively. Templin recorded scores of 81, 78 and 80, while Blackburn opened play with an 83 in the first two rounds before carding the team's best 18-hole score of 75 in round three.

Finishing in 45th place was Carter Morrison who concluded action with a 245. The sophomore finished with scores of 80, 79 and 86.

Austin Von Alst rounded out Western's 'Top 5' with a T49th-place finish after carding a 249 (81-84-84).

Belmont took home the team crown with a three-round score of 900 (297-301-302), and the Bruins' Ashton Van Horne took home medalist honors with a 214 (69-72-73).

The Leathernecks are off the rest of the March before finishing the regular season regionally in the month of April. Western is scheduled to compete in the Bradley Invitational in Peoria, Ill. on April 3-4 before heading to Bloomington, Ind. for the NYX Hoosier Invitational on April 11-12. WIU is then slated to conclude the regular season at home with the 43rd Annual WIU Beu/Mussatto Invitational in Macomb on April 20-21.
