Leatherneck Women’s Golf Finishes Day One in Hawaii

Western Illinois concludes the three-round event with 18 holes Wednesday

KANEOHE, Hawaii – Western Illinois women's golf wrapped up opening-day action in the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational Tuesday (March 10) evening.

Senior Abby Ball leads all Leatherneck golfers after day one with a 167. After hitting an 87 in round one, Ball fired a season-best 80 in round two.

Owning a score of 171 heading into tomorrow's final round is freshman Allie Leingang. Leingang opened the invite with scores of 91 and 84.

Sophomore Jessica Schultz finished Tuesday's 36 holes with a 173 after posting scores of 89 and 84.

Junior Julie Whalen and senior Ashley Jeffers finished with scores of 175 and 176, respectively. Whalen recorded scores of 91 and 84, while Jeffers tallied an 88 in each of the first two rounds.

Both sophomore Anna Cullinan and junior Allison Farrell have a 177 after day one, and senior Jessica Knepp owns a 181 heading into Wednesday's final 18 holes.

As a team, WIU is in 15th with a 698 (354-344).

Oklahoma State leads the field with a 566, while the Cowgirls' Linnea Johansson is in first place individually with a 137 (67-70).

The final 18 holes of the event, which is taking place at the Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course, are slated to take place tomorrow with a shotgun start at 12 p.m. (CT).
