Leathernecks Hit the Road for a Summit League Matchup Against Oral Roberts

Western in search of first league victory Sunday

MACOMB, Ill. – The Western Illinois women's soccer team will resume Summit League play on Sunday, October 11, as the Leathernecks hit the road to take on Oral Roberts. The contest between WIU and the Golden Eagles will kick off at 1 p.m. at the Case Soccer Complex.
 
The Leathernecks (1-9-0) (0-1 SL) are on the hunt for their first win since August 28, a 3-2 double-overtime victory against Eastern Illinois at home. Skyler Jessop leads the team with two goals while Brianna Hughes, Ashley Kuhlmann, and Meagan Wilson have each scored one game apiece this season. Jessop and Madeline Edwards lead the team with 19 and 16 shots, respectively. Victoria Kappel has spent over 860 minutes in goal for the Purple and Gold with 40 saves and 20 goals allowed.
 
A LOOK AT THE GOLDEN EAGLES: The Golden Eagles have posted a 5-5-2 (1-1 SL) record this season. Kayla Keller leads the way offensively with four goals and three assists on the season. Brittney Lawrence also contributes with five goals and an assist. Freshman goalie Maddie Rhodes splits time in net with Ryliegh Bohnenstiehl, the two have combined for 67 saves and have allowed 15 goals. Oral Roberts will hit the road for a match at Oklahoma State on October 9 before welcoming the Leathernecks to Tulsa.
 
SERIES HISTORY: Sunday will mark the 18th meeting between the Leathernecks and the Golden Eagles, with Western trailing the all-time series 8-9-0. The two teams last met on October 24, 2014 where WIU collected the 3-2 victory at home.
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Leathernecks wrapped up nonleague play on Sunday, October 4, at home against Indiana State. The Sycamores netted two goals late in the first half and lead 2-0 going into halftime. Skyler Jessop brought the game within one early in the second period off an assist from Mary Street as she took the ball downfield and got past the keeper, but the Sycamores hung on with the 2-1 advantage. Victoria Kappel had five saves on the afternoon and Daniela Salinas led the team with four shots on goal.
