Regular Season Concludes With Loss to Omaha

Box Score MACOMB, Ill. – Five Leathernecks seniors played their final home game at Mary Ellen McKee Stadium on Saturday (May 3). Western Illinois dropped a tough, 2-0 decision to Omaha to conclude the 2014 regular season. The Leathernecks will enter the 2014 Summit League Tournament following an 18-26-1 overall record and a 4-13 mark in conference play.

Emma Jarrell, Bria Jones, Megg Kelly, Monica Rondón and Briana Williams were all honored before the game.

"This group had been a very upbeat group," said head coach Holly Van Vlymen. "They always have a good time and you never know what you're going to get from them because they joke around a lot. They brought a lot of energy to this program."

Starting pitcher Hailey Bickford worked out of a jam in the first but a two-run triple in the second gave Omaha a 2-0 lead.

The Leathernecks had baserunners in five of the seven innings, but could not record the crucial hit.

Western had a runner on third in the first inning, runners at first and second in the second and a runner at second in the third.

Sammy Marshall went one-for-three in the finale, while Karissa Kouchis and Briana Williams each picked up a pair of basehits.

Bickford pitched a complete game, allowing two earned runs on nine hits while striking out three batters.

The Leathernecks will be the No. 5 seed in the 2014 Summit League Championships and will face the IUPUI Jaguars Wednesday (May 7) at 5:30 p.m. in Fargo N.D.
