Softball Falls Twice in Fargo

FARGO, N.D. – Western Illinois softball dropped two to North Dakota State on Saturday (April 26). The Leathernecks lost Game One 10-0 in five innings, before falling in Game Two 6-0. The Fighting Leathernecks are now 18-23-1 overall and 4-10 in The Summit League.

GAME ONE: WESTERN ILLINOIS 0, NORTH DAKOTA STATE 10 (5 INNINGS):

Western Illinois fell behind early after a grand slam in the first inning and were unable to come from behind against the Bison.

Western Illinois collected three hits in the ballgame but NDSU scored three times in the fourth before ending the game on a three-run home run in the fifth.

Sammy Marshall, Karissa Kouchis and Taylor Messer recorded the hits for Western.

Hailey Bickford suffered the loss. She falls to 4-10 in 2014.

GAME TWO: WESTERN ILLINOIS 0, NORTH DAKOTA STATE 6:

NDSU jumped in front early for the second time, leading 2-0 after the first inning.

Western Illinois loaded the bases in the second, but could not capitalize, leaving all three runners on base.

North Dakota State then extended the lead to 3-0 on a sacrifice fly in the second and plated another two runs in the fifth. The Bison capped the scoring with a single run in the sixth.

The Leathernecks scattered four hits in the game. Briana Williams, Teagan Walsh and Lia Romeo all collected hits.

Kacyee Hart suffered the loss. Hart struck out four batters and falls to 6-6 in 2014.

The Fighting Leathernecks look to rebound on Tuesday (April 29) against Iowa in Iowa City.
