THE GAME: Western Illinois closes out its regular season road schedule in Brookings this weekend... It'll be the second straight weekend in the state of South Dakota for WIU... A victory would give Western three road wins this year (all in MVFC play) and tie for the most since the 2007 season.

THE SERIES: South Dakota State has won six straight in the series to take a 7-4 lead... Western last victory in Brookings came in September 1980, a 33-27 win... WIU's last win in the series was a 29-26 four-overtime victory to open the 2007 season.

THE COACHES: WIU head coach Bob Nielson enters his second year with the Leathernecks. He owns an 8-14 record at Western and 178-73-1 in his 22nd year as a head coach...  South Dakota State head coach John Stiegelmeier is 117-84 in his 18th year with the Jackrabbits and overall.

SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS: South Dakota State ended a two-game losing streak with a 32-17 road win at #17 Indiana State... Zach Zenner recorded 193 yards and two TDs on 27 carries, including a 94-yard TD in the fourth quarter... Austin Sumner returned to throw for 298 yards on 21-of-35 passing with two interceptions and two TDs... Jake Wieneke caught six passes for 172 yards and both scores, including a 91-yarder in the third... SDSU had two punts blocked, including one that went for a safety... T.J. Lally led the defense with 10 tackles... The team ranks seventh nationally only averaging 40.5 penalty yards per game... SDSU stands 13th allowing just 169.3 passing yards per game... Its 32:28 average in time of possession is good for 11th in the country... Zenner ranks 11th nationally averaging 158.9 yards per game... Justin Syrovatka is eighth with a .923 FG percentage.

ONE OF THE TOUGHEST SCHEDULES AROUND: Western enters this weekend with the sixth-toughest schedule in the country, based on cumulative opposition winning percentage... The Fighting Leathernecks have played two Big Ten Conference teams and are coming off a stretch playing five games against a ranked opponent... The final two opponents are ranked in the nation's 'Top 25' poll: South Dakota State and Indiana State... Based off past opposition, Western stands ninth nationally in toughest schedule.

POINTS ON THE ROAD: Western Illinois scored 44 points at South Dakota in the 44-29 win. Those points were the most since recording 63 at Indiana State in November 2005... The two road game victories matches the most since the 2010 season.

VALLEY FOOTBALL > FBS: According to the latest Sagarin rankings, the Missouri Valley Football Conference ranks ahead of THREE Division I Football Subdivision Conferences and half of a fourth... The MVFC (63.02) enters this week in front of the: Mid-America-West (61.27), Mountain West-West Division (60.59), Conference-USA West (59.49), Conference-USA East (58.68), Sun Belt (55.38), and Mid-America East (53.75) Conferences... The MVFC is 2-10 versus the FBS, but of those 10 losses nine came against teams from the 'Power 5' Conferences. The only non-Power 5 loss was UNI flying across the Pacific Ocean to play at Hawai'i... Overall the MVFC owns a 28-11 record out-of-conference.

BLOCK THAT KICK: Western Illinois blocked its sixth kick of the season when Kevin Kintzel got a hand on the extra point attempt and it was eventually returned for a defensive ExP and two points... David McDaniel leads the team with three blocks, including two against Northern Iowa in which he tied the WIU single-game record. He leads the MVFC and ranks sixth nationally... Kintzel is second in the league and 11th in the country... The team's six blocks are first in the MVFC and fourth nationally.

KINTZEL AGAIN LEADS THE VALLEY: Kevin Kintzel enters this week averaging a MVFC-leading 8.7 tackles per game (50th nationally). He also leads the MVFC recording 5.1 solo tackles per game (28th nationally)... His career-high 16 tackles against North Dakota State were the most by a Leatherneck since the 2010 postseason (Kyle Glazier-17 at Coastal Carolina).

BAKER AMONG RUSHING LEADERS: Senior J.C. Baker ranks 26th nationally averaging 100.5 rushing yards per game (21st with 1,005 yards)... His 120.3 all-purpose yards per game is 45th nationally... In 22 career games as a Leatherneck, Baker has racked up 2,154 rushing yards, good to overtake 10th place on the all-time list.

ELITE 1,000 YARD COMPANY: J.C. Baker  joined an elite group of Leathernecks when he reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark for the second straight year... His final rush in the South Dakota game went for 15 yards to push him over the milestone (1,005)... Baker became just fifth Leatherneck ever to record 1,000 rushing yards in consecutive seasons, joining: Travis Glasford (3), Aaron Stecker (2), Herb Donaldson (2) and Charles Tharp (2)... Last year Baker became the only first-year Division I player in program history to reach the 1,000 yard mark, finishing with 1,149 yards (fifth-fewest carries to reach 1,000 in the 2013 season)... A transfer from Arizona Western CC, Baker is the only Leatherneck to record 1,000 rushing yards in his first two years as a NCAA Division I player.

IN THE CAREER TOP 10 AS A SOPHOMORE: Just 22 games into his Western Illinois career, Trenton Norvell broke into the WIU career 'Top 10' in six categories... He enters this week ranked:
• 6th in career completions (383)
• 6th in attempts (705)
• 7th in passing yards (4,602)
• 6th in passing touchdowns (36)
• 7th in total offense (4,723)
• 8th in rushing TDs by a quarterback (3)
He now owns three career 300-yard passing games, two of those coming in consecutive weeks (310 yards vs. Illinois State and Northern Iowa).

SIXTH 100 AND APPROACHING THE RECORDS: Lance Lenoir, Jr. picked up his sixth career 100-yard receiving game (vs. Northern Iowa), and continues to climb up the career receiving leaders chart... Lenoir became (at the time) the 26th player in program history to record 1,000 receiving yards and now 12th all-time with 1,367 yards in 22 games.
LENOIR, JR. 100-YARD GAMES
195 - Illinois State (career-high 12 rec, 2TD/2014)
132 - at Youngstown State (8 rec, 2TD/2014)
115 - at Southern Illinois (7 rec/2014)
115 - at Northwestern (11 rec/2014)
105 - Northern Iowa (5 rec/2014)
105 - at Illinois State (7 rec, 2TD/2013)

LENOIR ON THE SEASON AND CAREER RECORD WATCH: For Lance Lenoir, Jr. his climb up the season and career 'Top 10' continues... On the season listing, Lenoir is:
• Tied 1st for most 100-yard receiving games (5)
• 4th in receptions (62)
• 8th in yards (878)
He needs two more touchdowns to move into a tie in that category, currently with five scores... Among the career leaders, he moved into ninth place in receptions (101) and is 12th in yardage (1,367). He's also tied for fourth with six 100-yard receiving games and tied for eighth in touchdowns (12).

SCOTT JOINS THE 1,000 CLUB: Hi-C Scott became the 27th Leatherneck all-time to record 1,000 receiving yards following his performance against South Dakota... Scott accounted for 94 yards on just three receptions to give him 1,005 yards all-time (72 receptions)... Also in a rare feat in WIU history, Scott joins Lance Lenoir, Jr. in having two active players with 1,000-plus receiving yards.

KNUFFMAN IN CAREER LISTING: Sophomore Nathan Knuffman moved into 10th place in three career 'Top 10' listings... He moved into a five-way tie for eighth place in field goals (11), ninth in extra points (59) and ninth place in scoring among kickers (92).
