MACOMB, Ill. - The Fighting Leathernecks played host to the third and final round of the 41st Annual Beu Mussatto Invitational Saturday morning (March 30). Western Illinois' purple team finished tied for seventh with a score of 909, while WIU gold team finished 12th with a score of 930.
A pair of Summit League teams took first and second-place in the invite, with South Dakota State earning the top spot after firing a team score of 889 (300-285-304) and IUPUI taking second with a 891 (286-301-304).
IUPUI's Santiago Ruiz took first individually with a 217 (73-74-70), and SDSU's Hudson Carpenter finished second (74-70-74--218).
Western team purple was led by Ben Kilborn who carded a team-best 222 (75-73-74) and finished tied for 11th-place. Peter McKinzie finished tied for 23rd with a 229 (76-72-81), while Matt Calder and Dan Bidle each tied for 37th after each carding a 231. Rounding out team purple's top five was Nate Davis who finished with a 232.
The Fighting Leathernecks' gold team was led by Nick Steffens and Alex Templin who each finished with a 230 and tied for 29th-place. Carson Baugher finished in a tie for 63rd (84-74-79--237), Alex Flaugher finished tied for 68th (77-78-84--239), and Konrad Deka tied for 79th (78-83-89--250).
Western had two individuals finish up action Saturdays as well. Tyler Thorman tied for 37th with a three-round score of 231 and Robinson Logue fired a 255 and finished in 84th-place.
The Leathernecks continue spring play next Saturday with the NYX Hoosier Invitational (hosted by Indiana) in Bloomington, Ind.
