Intercollegiate on Sunday (Sept. 23). As a team Western finished the tournament
in 13th place with a three-round total of 929 (318, 304, 307).
The University of Illinois took home
the tournament title
with a three-round total of 870. Central Arkansas finished in
second place with an 891 through the tournament while host Illinois State
finished in third with an 893. Rounding out the top five is Missouri State who
finished play with an 894 and Wisconsin with a 902.
Individually for the Purple & Gold,
Nate Davis led the
way with a three-round total of 226 (78,70,78). The sophomore finished in a tie
for 28th place.
"Nate Davis had a great tournament. His one-under par 70 in round two was the highlight of
the tournament for
the Leathernecks," said head coach Mel Blasi, "Nate was in the top 10
individually until an unfortunate double bogey on hole nine really hurt his
round today (Sunday)."
Senior Ben Kilborn
wrapped up the tournament in a tie for 52nd
place with a 234 (81, 77, 76). Just behind Kilborn finishing in a tie for 60th place was
senior Konrad Deka
. Deka concluded
action with a three-round total of
237 (79,84, 74), while redshirt freshman Tyler Thorman finished with a
240 (80,80,80). Thorman's 240 is good for tie for 71st
place.
Rounding out individual play for
Western is junior Dan Bidle who finished in 75th place with a three-round total of
241 (85, 77, 79).
"Overall it was a disappointing tournament
for us. We really let the conditions effect us on the first day and we weren't able to execute
shots on even the easier
holes today," continued Blasi, "The competition at this tournament was
excellent and it gave us a chance to see where we need to improve and where we
are at as individuals and as a team. We have a lot of work to do to reach our goals."
Western will next be in action starting
on Monday (Oct. 1)
as they travel to Manhattan, Kansas to compete in the Jim Colbert
Intercollegiate.
