LEMONT, Ill. -
Men's golf finished play at the John Dallio Memorial Tournament on Sunday, October
7. Second round play finished up Sunday morning with the third round following.
As a team, Western finished the tournament in 14th-place with a three round
total of 949 (322, 316, 311).
Marquette takes home the team title with a two-day total of
905. Host DePaul finished in second-place with a 910 on the tournament.
Northern Iowa, SIUE and Valparaiso would round out the top five with scores of
911, 912 and 914, respectively.
Individually for the Purple & Gold, Dan Bidle led the
way with three-round total of 234 (79, 77, 78). The junior finished in a tie
for 37th-place.
Sophomore Nate Davis finished two strokes behind Bidle with
a 236 (81, 78, 77) for the tournament. Davis finished in a tie for 44th-place.
Senior Ben Kilborn finished up tournament play in a tie for 54th place with a
239 (83, 77, 79).
Rounding out individual play for Western was Nick Steffens
and Konrad Deka. Steffens finished in a tie for 61st-place in his second
collegiate tournament with a 242 (81, 84, 77). Deka finished in a tie for 71st-place with a two-day total of 247 (81, 84, 82).
"Overall we have a good amount of work to do," said head
coach Mel Blasi, "We had a few bright spots from the weekend. I thought Nate Davis really hung in there and is starting to play really well. Nick Steffens
did well and had a good round today (Sunday). We've played a lot of golf so
far this fall but we still have work to do. Our guys are very capable of doing
well and hopefully we can clean some things up this week in practice."
Western will have a week off before traveling to Overland Park, Missouri to compete in the UMKC Invitational. Tournament play begins on
Monday, October 15th.
