FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Western Illinois men's and women's Cross Country teams
each took fourth place overall in the IPFW Invitational on Saturday. The men finished with a score of 127
points and the women finished with 98.
Freshmen Jared Summers (26:32) and Zach Wiedeman (26:36) led the Leatherneck men's team finishing 22nd and 23rd, respectively. Sophomore Chase Marlow also finished in the 'Top 25' with a
time of 26:41, good for 25th place.
Seniors Chris Matthews (28th, 27:44) and Brian Pinta (29th/28:01),
and sophomore Matt Drendel (32nd/28:43) completed the scoring.
For the women, senior Carianna Cottone led the way,
finishing in 12th place overall with a time of 19:14. Freshmen Alex Szymanski (20:28) and Alexa Williams (20:31)
finished in 19th and 20th, respectively.
Senior Josi Parker (22nd/20:53), junior Izzi Roy (25th/21:54),
and freshman Mackenzie Gray (26th/21:56) rounded out the women's scoring.
Purdue took the top honors on the men's side with a score of
16 points, while host school IPFW won the women's competition with a score of
23.
The Leathernecks travel to Iowa City on Saturday for the Hawkeye Invitational.
