CARMEL, Ind. - The Western Illinois men's and women's cross country teams completed their regular season, when they competed in the Summit League Championships on Saturday, Oct. 30. The men finished seventh out of 10 teams, while the women placed ninth out of 10 teams.
The men's team was led by senior Mike McGraw, who finished the 8K race in 20th place with a time of 25:45. Sophomore Chase Marlow was next best for the Leathernecks, finishing in 39th place with a time of 26:52.
Senior Chris Matthews (26:58/41st), freshman Michael Castel (27:08/44th) and Jared Summers (27:20/47th) and senior Brian Pinta (28:03/55th) completed the scoring for the Leathernecks.
The women were led once again by senior Carianna Cottone, who finished the 6K race in 16th place with a time of 22:15. Senior Josi Parker had the next best time for the Leathernecks, finishing in 52nd place with a time of 24:22.
Sophomore Alexa Williams (24:40/54th), freshmen Alex Szymanski (26:15/57th) and Mackenzie Gray (26:37/59th), and senior Izzi Roy (26:46/60th) rounded out the scoring for the Leathernecks.
The men's event was won individually by South Dakota State with a score of 43 points. The women's event was won by Oakland with a score of 45 points.
Up next for the Leathernecks are the NCAA Regional Championships, which will be held on Nov. 13.
