COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Western Illinois men's and women's Cross Country teams competed in the Richard Clark Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 2. The men's team took sixth place with a score of 123, while the women finished in ninth place with a score of 240.
The men were led by senior Mike McGraw who finished with a time of 25:39, good enough for fourth place. McGraw's finish in the meet was his best finish of the year. Freshman Jared Summers (26th/27:32) and sophomore Chase Marlow (28th/27:35) followed McGraw in leading the Leathernecks.
Seniors Chris Matthews (30th/27:43) and Bryan Pinta (41st/28:29) and sophomore Matt Drendel (50th/30:46) rounded out the scoring for the men.
The women were topped once again by Carianna Cottone, who ran her best 5K of the year with a time of 18:51. Her time was good for 28th place overall.
Freshmen Alexa Williams (60th, 20:40), Alex Szymanski (70th/21:47) and Mackenzie Gray (72nd/22:31) and junior Izzi Roy (73rd/22:49) completed the scoring for the women.
Texas Tech took the top spots for both races, with the men finishing with 26 points and the women with 23 points.
The Leathernecks will be back in action on Friday, October 15 when they travel to Peoria, Ill. for the Bradley Classic.
