"We
ran into a Northern Iowa team that has been playing extremely well,"
Western Illinois coach Kym McKay said. "There were moments tonight when
we played well and matched them point for point. Ultimately, Northern
Iowa was more physical and more consistent with every player they put
on the floor."
Cait Egan led the Leathernecks with eight kills while Ellen Miller had 18 assists and Elise Crnjak and Brooke Stittleburg each had seven digs.
"Cait
and Ellen both played with great intensity," McKay said. "We just need
to get to the point where the entire team is playing with intensity and
consistency."
Western opens conference play with a 6 p.m. match against IUPUI Saturday in Indianapolis.
