MACOMB, Ill. - A pair of former Western Illinois University players are expected to start in Super Bowl XLII, as New England Patriots strong safety Rodney Harrison and New York Giants offensive guard Rich Seubert square off this weekend, guaranteeing the sixth time in the last seven years that the Leathernecks have been represented on the world championship team.
Harrison, who played at Western Illinois from 1991-93, will appear in the fourth Super Bowl of his career, while Seubert, a 1997-2000 Leatherneck, will be in his first.
Twelve former Leathernecks have been members of 28 Super Bowl appearances throughout history (including this week), and this year marks the seventh time that at least two alumni will be on the field. Three former Leathernecks participated in Super Bowl XXXII - Don Beebe and Frank Winters from Green Bay, and Denver assistant coach John Teerlinck.
Additionally, the last eight Super Bowl teams that have included a Leatherneck alum, have been victorious.
