MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois men's golfer Zach Guthrie, swimmer
Kyle Davis and softball player Britt Mason have each earned ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District honors.
Guthrie, a first team honoree, earned a 3.94 GPA through the fall and graduated with a degree in economics in the spring.
Guthrie's play on the course helped the Leathernecks to three consecutive tournament victories: the Beu/Mussatto Invitational, the Wiscon Corporation Invitational, and the Mid-Continent Conference Championship. He earned his top finish of the season at the Wiscon Corporation Invite, where he shot 6-over, good for sixth place.
Davis was named to the Academic All-District At-Large Second Team after maintaining a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in the accounting program.
Davis was a part of the Western Illinois 200-yard medley relay team that holds the 2006-07 top time of 1:39.61. Individually, he holds all of the top times in fly events (3) for the Leathernecks 2006-07 season, which include his record time in the 100-yard fly event of 54.68 and in the 200-yard fly event with a time of 2:01.89.
Mason was named Academic All-District Softball Second Team for her performance in left field with the Westerwinds and for her 3.96 GPA in the kinesiology program.
The 2006-07 Western Illinois team captain started all 46 games in left field for the Westerwinds, leading her team at bat with a .344 batting average. Mason recorded 42 hits, six doubles, two triples and 17 RBIs in 122 at bats with 13 stolen bases in 15 attempts. In the outfield, she recorded a .981 fielding percentage with 48 putouts, three assists and only one error.
In addition to playing softball, Mason is also a member of the Illinois Centennial Honors College at Western Illinois, a member of the dean's list and a Phi Kappa Phi member. Mason earned the Provost's Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Award in 2006 and 2007. She was an Academic All-Conference Selection in 2005 and 2006, was named to the 2006 Mid-Con All-Tournament Team and was a 2007 First Team All-Conference selection.
