MACOMB, Ill. - Western Illinois University junior
Taylor Rowan (Melbourne, Fla.) was chosen as the only kicker on the 2007 College Sporting News FCS All-America Team, which is comprised of 19 offensive players, 21 defensive players, a kicker, punter, kick returner, punt returner and long snapper.
Rowan grew into one of the nation's top place-kickers this year, both in long-range accuracy and in distance, kicking more 50-yard field goals than any other Division I kicker and ranking third in the country with 1.73 field goals per game.
The first-team all-Gateway honoree had more field goals during the regular-season than all but one other FCS kicker and owned four of the nation's five longest field goals. Rowan ranked 16th nationally in kick scoring, averaging 7.73 points per game, and was 6-of-8 from 50 yards and beyond, falling just one shy of tying the national record of seven in a season. His list of long-range field goals included one that tied the longest in school history, 56 yards, and included two in the same game, something only one other Gateway kicker has ever accomplished.
A three-time Gateway player of the week and three-time national player of the week, Rowan maintained his perfect career mark on extra points, ending the season at 117.
He joins linebacker
Jason Williams and running back
Herb Donaldson as Leatherneck all-Americans this year. All three juniors are expected to be among the nation's top performers next season.
