GREEN BAY, Wis. - Sophomore Amy Sauerwein (Belleville, Ill./Belleville Althoff Catholic) notched her sixth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 13 digs as the Western Illinois volleyball team collected its first road win of the season by defeating Central Michigan 3-0 (30-22, 30-12, 30-18) in the opening match of the Amerihost Inn Classic at Wisconsin-Green Bay.Western (3-6) took an early 7-1 lead in game one with Sauerwein and freshman Sarah Trimpe (Normal, Ill./Normal Community) behind the line. Freshman left side Monique Houston (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) tallied a game-high six kills and Sauerwein added three. Western hit .267 with 17 kills and held the Chippewas (2-5) to 12 kills and .044.Houston added another four kills in the following game as Western took an 18-point win in game two. The Purple and Gold took advantage of Central Michigan?s 14 errors in the game compared to Western?s lone error. The Chippewas recorded a match-low -.150 to Western?s match-high .321, and Western allowed CMU one total block (two assists) to its five blocks (one solo, eight assists).Western again capitalized on Central Michigan?s errors in game three for the 30-18 win. CMU committed 13 errors to Western?s three, and broke even on hitting while Western was .289. Western steadily increased its lead throughout the final game and was up by 12 twice before winning the game by the same margin. Overall, Western hit .288 to Central Michigan?s -.030 during the three-game win, and finished with 41 kills, nine errors and 13 blocks (one solo, 24 assists). CMU ended the match with 33 kills, 37 errors and three blocks (one solo, four assists).Houston finished the night hitting a career-high .500 with 15 kills and seven digs. Trimpe collected 32 of Western?s 39 assists and a match-high two aces, and junior libero Jennifer Alexander (Sycamore, Ill./Sycamore) tallied 16 digs. Sophomore Mary Olson (Elkhart, Ill./Mount Pulaski) recorded five kills and three block assists in her first outing of the 2005 season, and senior Jenna Yurs (Elgin, Ill./St. Edwards/Elgin C.C.) added seven kills and seven block assists.Whitney Evers led the Chippewas? offense as the only player to collect double-digit kills with 13. Courtney Kersten added 25 assists and Ali McCrite notched 13 digs.The win marked Western?s third all-time against Central Michigan and head coach Kym McKay?s first in her only match against the Chippewas, but Central Michigan still leads the all-time series 4-3. Western will continue action in the Amerihost Inn Classic Saturday, September 17, with an 11 a.m. match against the North Dakota State Bison and the tourney finale against host Wisconsin-Green Bay at 7 p.m.
